Two join Climate Smart Accelerator board of directors

The Caribbean Climate-Smart Accelerator (CCSA) announced the appointment of development professionals Una May Gordon and Daniel Best to its board of directors.

Their combined 65 years of experience and expertise is expected to propel the CCSA’s mission to advance climate resilience and sustainable development throughout the Caribbean, the organisation said.

Racquel Moses, chief executive officer of the CCSA said, “Our work to close financing gaps to ensure our region will not just adapt to, but thrive in the face of climate change is urgent. Una May and Daniel are excellent additions to our board as tried, knowledgeable and driven experts who understand the regional and global contexts in which we operate. Their collective effect will propel us to a new age of impact.” With more than 35 years in climate change, environmental management, and agribusiness, Gordon joins the CCSA board as the new co-chair. She has played vital roles in climate policymaking, disaster risk assessment, and intersectoral project management at national, regional, and international levels. Best, senior infrastructure and development adviser to the Office of the Prime Minister of Barbados, seconded from his role as Director of the Projects of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), brings almost 30 years of experience as a Civil Engineer, Project Management Professional and Development Banker to the Board.

The other CCSA board members are Dr Joy St John, executive director of the Caribbean Public Health Agency; Dr Didacus Jules, Director General of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States; Jean Oelwang, President and Trustee of Virgin Unite and co-founder of Plus Wonder; CCSA CEO Moses; and advisor Lilia Burunciuc, Country Director for the Caribbean at the World Bank; and Musheer Kamau, Regional Operations Advisor and Strategy Leader at the Inter-American Development Bank.
